What does it mean?

This article outlines the steps required to configure the footer page section of your WordPress website. The footer typically appears at the bottom of every page and is an ideal location to display important information such as copyright notices, contact details, navigation links, social media icons, and more.

What should I do?

1. Access the Customizer: Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard. In the left-hand sidebar menu, navigate to Appearance > Customize > Widgets. This will open the WordPress Customizer in a new tab or window.

2. Here you can add various navigation menu blocks to be displayed on the footer section ‘Below Content Widget Area’.

3. You will find here various settings that allow you to:

  • Add a navigation menu to display in the footer. You need to select one of the pre-defined menus or you need to create a new one. In this case, we will add a Sitemap menu.

  • Manage footer widgets: This may redirect you to the Widgets section (Method 2) or provide a visual interface for adding and arranging widgets within the footer areas defined by your theme.
  • Customize footer columns: Some themes allow you to divide the footer into multiple columns for better organisation of content.
  • Set background colour or image: Adjust the visual appearance of the footer.
  • Add social media icons: Link to your social media profiles.

4. Carefully review the available options and configure them according to your requirements. The Customizer provides a live preview of your changes on the right-hand side, allowing you to see the results before saving.

5. Save your changes: Once you are satisfied with the footer configuration, click the Publish button at the top of the Customizer menu. This will make your changes live on your website.

Troubleshooting

  • Incorrect Layout: Check your theme's Customizer or widget settings for options related to footer columns or layout.
  • Content not displaying correctly: Review the settings of the individual widgets or Customizer options you have used. Ensure the content you have entered is accurate.
