What does it mean?

This guide is designed for Gray Line licensees who offer tours in multiple locations. It explains how to effectively manage and update your specific destination and city-level content pages within the WordPress backend, ensuring a consistent and engaging user experience through the 'Child Menu Page' template.

These pages function as dedicated informational hubs on your website, offering comprehensive content about specific destinations or cities. Designed for clarity, they present easily digestible information to visitors, particularly when showcasing your diverse offerings across various geographical locations.

All content on these pages is managed using a pre-defined layout template known as the 'Child Menu Page'. This template is instrumental in ensuring a consistent design and structural uniformity across all your location-specific content, thereby providing a unified and intuitive user experience. Importantly, both primary destination pages and their associated city-specific pages utilise this exact same template.

  • Editing the content on these pages empowers you to:
  • Update textual descriptions and factual information relevant to a specific location.
  • Add or replace compelling images and other multimedia pertinent to that destination or city.
  • Modify internal and external links to relevant resources, ensuring accuracy and utility for visitors.
  • Ultimately, ensure all details are current, engaging, and accurately reflect the unique aspects and tour offerings of each location.

Within the main content area, you will be able to modify existing text, add new content blocks, insert images, or embed videos using the standard WordPress editor functionalities (whether you are using Gutenberg blocks or the Classic Editor).

Beyond the main content area, your 'Child Menu Page' template may include various dedicated sections for specific information:

  • Page Title:

This is the primary title of your page. It is crucial as it is referenced in the page's URL slug, browser tab titles, and by various plugins, impacting both user experience and search engine optimisation (SEO).

  • Featured Image:

The Featured Image is the primary visual associated with your content. It typically represents the page (in this context, the city or destination) and serves as its visual identity, often displayed prominently as a hero banner or thumbnail in listings.

To replace it, simply click on the existing image thumbnail or the 'Replace image' option, then upload a new one. We recommend giving your image a descriptive file name and ensuring it is uploaded to your Media Library for optimal organisation and SEO.

Organising City Pages as Child Pages

For proper navigation and display, city-specific pages must be created as child pages of their respective parent destination page. This establishes a clear hierarchy within your website's structure.

  • For instance: The 'Florianópolis' city page should be created as a child of the 'Northern Brazil' destination page.
  • The unique text content for the city card (as displayed on the destination page) and its featured image are editable directly within the settings of the individual city page itself.
