What does it mean?
This guide explains the nature and functionality of your WordPress Blog Listing Page (often referred to as the "Posts Page" or "Magazine Landing Page") and how to manage its appearance.
The Blog Listing Page (also known as the "Magazine Landing Page" or "Posts Page") is a specialised page within WordPress designed to automatically display a chronological list of your most recent blog posts. It is built using the 'Blog List Page' template.
Unlike a standard static page (such as an "About Us" or "Contact" page), you do not directly input content into the editor of this page. Instead, it functions as a dynamic container where WordPress automatically populates the relevant information from your individual blog posts.
On this page, you will typically find:
- Post Titles: The headlines of your blog articles.
- Post Excerpts: Short summaries of each article.
- Featured Images: The primary visual associated with each individual blog post (if set for the post).
- "Read More" Links: To direct visitors to the full articles.
Its primary purpose is to serve as the main entry point for your blog content, allowing visitors to easily browse and discover your latest articles.
What should I do?
Managing the content and appearance of your Blog Listing Page requires understanding its dynamic nature.
Content editability
The content of the Blog Listing Page itself is not directly editable via the WordPress page editor. When you access this page (e.g., via Pages > All Pages and selecting the page titled 'Blog' or similar), its content editor will typically appear blank or contain only minimal placeholder information. Any text or images you attempt to add directly here will usually be overridden by the dynamically generated list of posts. The page's core function is to display your posts, not to host static content.
Featured image display
It is important to note that any "Featured Image" displayed prominently on your main blog list page is NOT a featured image of the page itself. Instead, it is the Featured image of the specific blog post that is marked or configured as the 'Blog Featured' post within your system (e.g., the latest or a pinned post).
To change this displayed image, you must edit the individual blog post that is currently being featured or displayed as the latest. Within that post's editor, you will find and can replace its Featured image in the designated sidebar section.
